The trip up to conference started with a bang.....For hazel
anyway!! we all met at Paul's house to load the gear into Dan and Paul’s
car with hazel as usual late she arrived jumped out of the car shouted shot
gun for Paul’s car and tripped up the curb and fell flat on her front!
once we patched hazel up we set off, all was going well we were travelling
at warp speed down the back roads to get on the A1 then we were travelling
on the A1 all of a sudden signs started showing that the A1 was closed just
after Peterborough so at warp speed i got slung map and asked which way
to go?!?!?!?!?!?!?! and so i guessed instead....don’t try do that!
Eventually we got back on the right track and got back to warp speed! Eventually
after doing sum high speeds round some very scary bends and country roads
(it’s hard to no whether to keep your eyes closed or open) we arrived
in time for last orders at the pub! A night of introductions to everyone
followed a very relaxed night with some games!
Saturday morning we were all up by 9.30 for breakfast!! Then colours at
10.30 when we were all put into large patrols who we then got set off on
a big hike round the area we were staying in total we climbed almost 200
steps but the views were worth it! at the lunch top there were patrol competitions
of putting up a patrol tent or taking it down it was a nice shelter from
the wind and snow!!! Once some of us had cheated and got the minibus back
and the others walked, we all had some free time which we spend writing
out rover report and getting the presentation ready. Then it was time for
a trip to the shops again at warp speed with Dan the man!! once we had returned
it was time for the conference and various items were discussed as well
as a chance to find out how other crews run there events and crew evening
and investitures. Then it was time to tuck into a lovely winter bbq!! After
the bbq it was time for everyone to don there party gear and for us to get
into our boxes.....unfortunately the hand to mouth in the box was quite
hard so the boxes didn’t last long!! A game of giant Jenga followed
with Suzzy knocking the tower over mean a bit of a solo for her! Once all
that was over s quiet disco followed and some more 'adult' games to do with
liquid refreshment!!
Sunday morning was a bit of a late one with us missing brekkie which didn’t
overly matter as the youth hostel decided to kick everyone out early so
with a rushed scoring of the winter projects a quick tidy up of the youth
hostel and the winning teams and groups presentation we were all set to
leave!! with everyone being given uncooked pizza we wrapped one in foil
and put it under the bonnet hoping to get some nice cooked pizza....unfortunately
we lost it somewhere.....were not sure wear!! Anyway so some of us popped
off to a very cheap camping shop to pick up some bargains while some others
popped off to the pub! So we left at a slower speed home which was a fairly
quiet and uneventful trip home!!
A good weekend was had by all I hope this gives everyone an idea of what
went on and everyone is looking forward to us hosting the conference next
year!
